Sista's Keeper Correspondent Young black women attend the Keep Rising! Summit on May 9th in Concord. Around 8:00am, 35 girls fill the gymnasium of Concord Middle School, eagerly awaiting the start of the Keep Rising! Empowerment Summit for Girls. Venus Alexandria, the founder of the summit believes it's her vision to empower and inspire young girls in her community. "I am blessed that God has trusted me with this task," she says. She accomplishes that goal by inviting Charity Bailey, a reporter from Fox46 in Charlotte, NC. Bailey says in her morning keynote speech that young girls are our future leaders. "You should have one hand forward for someone to pull you up, and one hand back to pull someone else up," she advises and it settles in the hearts of the participants. Afterwards, the girls split up into workshops to help build writing, public speaking, social media and self-esteem skills. One participant Sydnni Poole, a 16-year-old sophomore at West Charlotte High School in Charlotte, NC says she looks forward to the self-esteem workshop. |
